Jay A. Hartman is a 30+ year veteran of the publishing industry, with experience in both selling and producing. He started as a Waldenbooks store manager in Brunswick, Georgia, and was previously the Content Editor for KnowBetter.com, one of the Internet’s oldest sites reporting on ebooks and epublishing. Jay and his business partner at the time were hired by Random House and Simon & Schuster to provide statistical data when both publishing houses were building their ebook divisions.
In addition to his years of writing material for KnowBetter, Jay graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Literature. Early in his career he was an on-air journalist for WVFS radio in Florida, and writer for the Florida Flambeau newspaper.
Jay would later found publishing house Untreed Reads, serving as its Editor-in-Chief for 13 years before making the decision to leave after the company was acquired by another entity.
Jay is known as a respected innovator in the ebook industry—constantly ahead of the curve. Because of his expertise and instincts, he is a regular speaker and interviewed expert on ebooks and all things in the ebook industry—at conferences in person and online.
With his love of literature and his knowledge of all aspects of the ebook industry, he is an author’s best friend in this industry. Because of his background and his nature, instead of doing what most companies do and building a business on what they “think” a customer wants, he listens to the customer and gives them not only what they want now, but anticipates what the customer will want 10 years from now—and gives it to them now.

From 2016 to 2022 Walt served as Editor of the alternate history magazine, The Grantville Gazette and as Editor-in-Chief of Eric Flint’s Ring of Fire Press where he edited more than 100 books of alternate history, science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction. He served Top of the World Publishing, along with Joy Ward, as SFF/Alternate History Editors for their Novus Mundi Publishing imprint until the imprint was sold. He is a principal with Spitzer and Boyes LLC. He is a Life Fellow of the International Society of Automation, a Fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control, a Chartered Measurement and Control Technologist, and a past member of the Association of Professional Futurists. From 2003 to 2013 Walt was Editor-in-Chief of Control magazine, and from 2014 he has been Editor and Publisher of the Industrial Automation and Process Control INSIDER. Walt “pays it forward” as Vice President and Director of The Heinlein Society.

Joy has been a published author and editor for over twenty-five years. She has written and edited nonfiction and fiction.
Joy was an editor for Eric Flint’s Ring of Fire and wrote a number of stories for the imprint. Later she was an editor at Untreed Reads and Top of the World Publishing. She was Interview Editor for Galaxy’s Edge magazine. In the nonfiction world, she was also an editor for other publications including Commerce Magazine and Government Review Magazine.
Joy has written or co-authored a number of books including Haint; A Tale of Extraterrestrial Intervention and Love Across Time and Space; Dogs and Dragons; Conversations from the Edge—a collection of interviews with science fiction greats; Interviews from the Ark, and edited several anthologies with Eric Flint and Walt Boyes.
She spent several years as the Dogster for Love of Dog Blogger. Her blog was voted one of the best animal blogs internationally.
She has been a consumer psychologist researching a broad array of subjects. Her research covered everything from abortion to jewelry buying.
